We have all heard the thoughts about AI, both the good and the bad. Do try to remember that it is not the tool, but the person using the tool that matters. AI tools, like ChatGPT for instance, is an excellent tool to use for various reasons.
AI is becoming an amazing resource for those in Human Resources. I decided to try out a few of my own commands to see what I would get back.
So I used ChatGPT for things like making sure my resume was ATS friendly. Recently I’ve learned a different way of using ChatGPT from an HR perspective. I’ve been thinking of changing career paths. I had a few different paths I wanted to go down. So, I went to my ChatGPT account and told it to evaluate my resume. I asked it to come up with a plan to make changing my career a smoother and faster transition. I had this AI find the knowledge I lacked. It also showed ways to gain this knowledge. Additionally, it found hidden experiences that can be applied differently.
It came up with this expert plan to make a career transition. I have posted the link to the chat here so you can copy the commands if you need to. This is a Knowledge Gaps Analysis.
I didn’t continue with the conversation. Still, the ability is there if I decide HR is the route I want to go.
I wanted to keep going to through the posted jobs and see what else I found.
As I was scrolling through job feeds on LinkedIn. I noticed how many jobs were requiring a Bachelor’s degree to be considered. There were plenty of jobs offering the choice of using experience in place of a degree. Don’t get me wrong. But I got to thinking. Is it possible I use my experience to gain that piece of printer paper, to make job searching easier?
Turns out, you can. ChatGPT scraped the internet to find the top 2 schools that aligned with my experience. It also created a map for me to gain my Bachelors degree. It picked out the skills from my resume that I uploaded. Using what I had, it provided a list of courses. My experience can be used as a credit for these courses. I also have some college credits, but didn’t finish for personal reasons, that can also be used towards college credit.
ChatGPT found a school that would use experience. It also provided a comparison. Additionally, it showed how each skill counted for certain classes or credits. I have that conversation here for you.
As you read the analysis for the college degree, keep in mind that this is a plan. It is based off resources ChatGPT found on the internet. I have not talked to anyone from TESU to find out how accurate this is. I have not progressed to find out what I would need to do go further. I also want you pay special attention to the very last option ChatGPT gives.
Do you want me to format this into a polished Word/PDF document (with TESU branding style) so you can send it directly to an advisor as a “credit proposal”? – Um… how awesome this resource have been when I was in high school? Pretty amazing what this program is capable of.
Looking for more AI assistance but can’t get the command quite right? It just takes some practice. If you need help getting started, let me know. I’m always willing to help!
I hope this post gives others ideas into how to use AI tools to get ahead.
